Torch of Global Enlightenment

The World Affairs Council, the Religion and Society Center are collaborating to sponsor the Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards in which two people and two organizations will be honored for their work in helping to advance an appreciation for diverse cultures, religious tolerance and/or global peace. The World Affairs Council will select an individual and an organization that advances global understanding, with preference being given to those in the Central Pennsylvania region. Awardees will model the Council?s mission of helping to inform and engage Americans in international affairs. The Council is a non-partisan, non-political 501(c)3 organization.The Religion and Society Center/The Interfaith Alliance will focus on honoring those who have demonstrated appreciation for religious diversity and tolerance.We expect these to be annual awards.

Each organization will devise its method of selecting award recipients. The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg will issue an appeal to its associates to offer nominations for the awards. The Board of Directors will choose the winners from among those nominated by Dec. 30, 2012.

The Torch of Global Enlightenment Awards will promote the values of inclusiveness, diversity and multiculturalism in society; as well as openness to world travel and understanding of world history, faiths and cultures.

Torch of Global Enlightenment Citizen Award Criteria

This award is presented to an individual in the Central Pennsylvania Region who has, over a
period of time:

• Actively promotes and practices global awareness
• Consistently demonstrated excellence in professional and community leadership
• Made, or is making, significant contributions to the welfare of the community through
  involvement and participation
• Freely donates their time and energy for community betterment, in the areas of diversity

Torch of Global Enlightenment Corporate/Small Business Award Criteria

This award is presented to a corporation or small business owner in the Central Pennsylvania
Region who operates an established business and during the past year has:

• Experienced a growth in number of diverse employees.
• Has documented examples of recent acts of corporate social responsibility.
• Promotes diversity and inclusion among staff.
