Bomb kills 2 police near Afghan training academy

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) ? Afghan authorities say a roadside bomb has killed two policemen in Herat province of western Afghanistan, just hours before a ceremony to hand a nearby police training academy over from NATO to Afghan control.

Raouf Ahmedi, a spokesman for the Afghan police commander for the western region, says one of the policemen killed in Saturday's explosion was a teacher at the academy in Adraskan district. He says two other policemen were injured by the remote-controlled bomb that exploded as their vehicle passed.

Last week, a bomb in a parked motorcycle exploded outside the training center, killing two security guards.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attack, but it matched the pattern of Taliban strikes that typically target Afghan forces and government workers.

?

My boyfriend and I started dating mid last year One day, I was playing games on his ipad when an email notification appeared, casually I clicked Inbox. I really wasn?t thinking when I started reading his email untl I got a rude shock. I was still emailing his ex who is in yankee. I know her cos we went to the school together. Like the email is nothing serious but he gave me the impression that they were no longer in touch. I remember recently when she came up in our conversation and I asked him when last he heard from her and he said last year sometime last year

Me, I don?t know how to keep things so I confronted him immediately. At first he was very mad that I shouldn?t be reading his email blab la bla?. Then he started saying he didn?t want to hurt me but they still keep in touch as casual friends. Efe, our relationship is no longer fun? What do you think?

Riri

Hello Riri,

?

Relationships are basically about completely trusting and loving the person you are with.

Less than 100% love is like, less than 100% trust is suspicion.

Both of you violated one of the terms of a healthy happy relationship -Trust.? He lied, and you snooped.? And this has changed things for a very long time to come. He can?t say, ?I have never lied to you baby? and you can?t say ?Trust me baby?

?

****************************************

?

Efe, please advice me on how to handle my drama queen of a girlfriend. She?s very argumentative and aggressive. I am also a an aggressive person but I have mastered the art of calming myself down cos I tend to result to violence when I am upset.I sometimes tell her that if our roles were reversed, she the guy and my the babe in our relationship, I am sure she would be physically abusing me. And to make matters worse, when I try to calm her down or let her know that we aren?t exactly communicating during those heated moments, she starts saying condescending things like ?be a man and deal with your issues? or you are just looking for an escape route?.

It is just tough to be work things out in our relationship with this kind of behaviour. Bro, do you have any advice?

J

****************************************

Hello J,

I have been in such a relationship, to keep this sane during an argument, you try to say things in a way that will make your girlfriend calm down and have a dialogue> By communicating your feelings in very simple and honest terms, you expect her to not only hear you but also respond and reciprocate accordingly.

?

By the time my relationship was ending, I learnt that my confusion on why my girlfriend at the time couldn?t just get it wasn?t necessary. I had come to learn that people like that do actually understand everything that was communicated to them but they don?t really care for the other person?s feeling. And a clear indication of this fact is that they continue to carry on their behaviour. Think about this, who wouldn?t really love to resolve their relationship problems in a quiet and matured way? Only that person who doesn?t care about the person they are in a relationship with.

Modbook Pro to launch with SSD storage, up for preorder October 3rd

It wasn't all that long ago that Modbook Inc's CEO, Andreas Haas, made the mac-in-tablet Modbook Pro official, now we're learning that the super-slate will launch with high performance SSD storage. So, as you wield your MacBook Pro come tablet, you'll be free from spinning disks. Great, but what impact will this have on capacity? Well, according to the firm, storage will start at 64GB as standard, with upgrades possible all the way up to a, not-unreasonable, 480GB. Pre-orders go live on October 3rd, along with the all important reveal on price. Regardless of cost, if that void between the iPad and full-fat Windows 8 slates had been irking you, here's your answer.

Example:
"In purchases where buyer's brokers are offered half of a 5% commission, they may compete on price by refunding a portion of their commission to the homebuyer. A 1% rebate on the median-priced home would save the homebuyer $1,843."

How do rebates work?

"Some real estate brokers offer consumers cash refunds or non-cash incentives to encourage them to use that broker's services. Why Obama's New Teacher Incentive Pay Will Take Education ...

? ? ? President Obama and Arne Duncan's latest foray into modern education reform contains hundreds of millions for teacher performance incentives. While well intentioned, it is misguided. Ultimately it is destructive on several fronts.

? ? ? ?First, incentive pay for professional workers completely and utterly misunderstands motivation. This ten minute video on what motivates professional workers is a must for any leader or policy maker. At the behest of performance pay proponents, Vanderbilt University conducted the most exhaustive study on its effects to date. The results of this pro-performance pay study? It is a colossal waste of resources with zero bang for the buck.

? ? ? Secondly, and more insidious, is the modern reform narrative this reinforces; on purpose. To assume performance pay will close the gap, you must assume teachers just are not working as hard as they can. But for a few extra bucks in the pocket, they would somehow answer more kids questions or grade a few more papers more closely. It reinforces the modern reformers claim that, "If we ignore all factors that affect student achievement except teachers, we can definitively claim that teachers are at fault."

? ? ?Recently in Michigan they completed a total takeover of the urban schools by the staunchest, most vindictive of modern reformers. ?Their own evaluation scheme rated 99% of teachers as either effective or highly effective. Minnesota's top modern reformer has stated, verbatim, that 99% of teachers are fantastic. I will just have to take her word for it. If 99% of teachers are fantastic, and 99% of Michigan teachers are effective, or highly effective, why are we spending hundreds of millions on just 1% of the labor force?

? ? ?The answer is simple, and the third reason why this law is so destructive. We know for a fact that successful schools, Charter, Private, Traditional, you name it, achieve success when all teachers work together on all students. Pitting worker against worker on an assembly line race might work in the business world. A student's achievement is dependent on an entire team of teachers working together over several years. The Super Teacher works great in movies, but it is neither scalable nor sustainable.

? ? ?The Avengers is a much better metaphor for what works in education. Shamefully, that model is less appealing to a society devoted to the myth of the rugged individual. We know from research that incentive pay is not money wisely spent. So ask yourself why they are doing it. It is to divide teachers back into their isolated classroom kingdoms, when we know the best results come when we work in community.

? ? ? Teacher incentive pay is not an efficient way to use taxpayer money. That should be reason enough not to do it when we have so many pressing needs. Worse, incentive pay is counter to all we know about what works in successful schools. Finally, incentive pay forwards the B.S. meme that teachers are responsible for everything wrong with our system.

Sports help teens cope with cancer battles - KansasCity.com

High school seniors Ray Saari of Oak Park and Max Galeassi of Harrisonville have never met, but they share a common bond.

The same three words changed both athletes? lives. You have cancer.Saari, the leading scorer on the Oak Park boys soccer team, was diagnosed with testicular cancer on Nov. 19, 2010, when he was 16.Galeassi, a linebacker on the Harrisonville football team, learned of his diagnosis ? also testicular cancer ? on June 12 of this year. He was 17.Neither knew a thing about cancer ? Saari generalized it as an ?old man?s disease? ? but they knew they were scared.Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in males between the ages of 15 and 35, and the numbers are slowly increasing. But it is also one of the most curable kinds when detected early. In an effort to raise awareness, Saari will lead Oak Park onto the field tonight when the Northmen face district rival Park Hill at Livestrong Sporting Park. The game, which will follow Sporting Kansas City?s Major League Soccer match against Chicago, was organized by Saari and his Oak Park coaches. The severity of testicular cancer wasn?t lost on the two teenagers, who separately figured those three words were the equivalent of a death sentence.Describing himself as one of the most competitive people you will ever meet, Saari recalls his first thought after learning he was in for the battle of his life.?Wow,? Saari said matter of factly. ?I?m going to die.?
Galeassi turned 18 on Tuesday. Two weeks removed from his latest ? and perhaps last ? chemotherapy treatment, he celebrated adulthood by putting on his football pads for the first time this season. His Harrisonville No. 13 jersey fit neatly over the pads, and he donned a skull cap that hid his bald head.Six weeks into Harrisonville?s football season, Galeassi has yet to play a game. He attempts to practice but is easily fatigued. Still, he is determined to get back on the field.?It?s my senior year,? said Galeassi, who was fourth on the team in tackles last year as a junior outside linebacker. ?I don?t want to miss it.?Galeassi rushed home after being diagnosed with testicular cancer and scoured the Internet for more information. What he found was mostly good news. It was treatable and, most likely, curable.Satisfied he would eventually survive an encounter with an ugly disease, Galeassi turned his attention back to football.?I knew my chemo was going to cause me to miss a lot of football,? he said. ?I didn?t like that.?Although Saari?s cancer was much more advanced ? it had spread to his lungs, which developed tumors that were later surgically removed ? he too relied on sports as a means of maintaining some normalcy.?It wasn?t long before I didn?t think about dying anymore,? Saari said. ?I thought about when I would be able to play next.?For awhile, that (soccer) was all I really thought about.?Against his doctors? wishes, Saari played pickup soccer games between chemotherapy treatments. By March 2011, only four months removed from his diagnosis, he was again playing in games for his club team, Billy Goat FC. He played all of last season for Oak Park, including a cancer-awareness match against Staley that raised $2,600 for charity. The idea for tonight?s game was inspired by the support they received last year.?I couldn?t keep him off the field. The kid doesn?t hear ?No,??? said Billy Goat FC manager Abdullah Parker. ?And you know what? After (four) rigorous rounds of chemo, he was still one of the best players on the field.?
Saari will walk onto the Livestrong Sporting Park soccer field tonight for the second time. When Sporting Kansas City?s stadium opened on June 9, 2011, Saari accompanied Lance Armstrong onto the field. Armstrong was 25 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996. He survived the disease, which spread to his lungs and brain, and recovered to win the first of seven Tour de France titles three years later.Saari and Armstrong shared similar fights. They now share outcomes, too.As he did a year ago, Saari leads the Northmen in scoring with 10 goals. He scored 26 after his return last season. He plans to graduate after this semester and then make an early departure to the University of Tulsa, where he will play soccer on an athletic scholarship.?Being on the soccer field makes me feel like everything is behind me,? Saari said. ?I never think about (my cancer) when I?m playing.?Galeassi yearns for a similar moment. He won?t play tonight when Harrisonville hosts Grain Valley.Still, students have rallied around Galeassi in the same way others have rallied for Saari. Harrisonville fans plan to wear T-shirts tonight in support of Galeassi?s ongoing fight ? ?Live life to the MAX,? they will read. Many of his teammates wear wristbands with the same message.?He?s very close with his football family,? Harrisonville coach Chuck Lliteras said. ?I think it?s really brought up the caring and compassion of everyone on this team. Max never has a negative thing to say, and that?s kept our spirits high, too.?
There are moments that cancer patients don?t forget ? the day they?re told of their diagnosis, or their first round of chemotherapy.Karen McWhirt remembers the day that doctors told her son, Ian Drazick, that he was going to die of testicular cancer. In fact, she will never forget the exact words Drazick said to her after being told his disease, which was detected after it had spread to his brain, would ultimately prove fatal.?Mom, I want you to write a book about me,? McWhirt remembers Drazick asking in 2005, ?so other guys will know about this cancer, and they will have a better chance than I had of surviving it.?A former Lee?s Summit High School football player, Drazick was gone less than a month later, one month after his 20th birthday.Galeassi?s parents heard Drazick?s story on a local news broadcast. Two weeks later, Galeassi began to feel an aching pain in his scrotum.?The only reason I went to the doctor is because it ached,? Galeassi said. ?And that only happens in 10 percent of the cases.?Galeassi and Saari were both originally misdiagnosed. Each was told he was likely too young to have testicular cancer.Saari went through bags of cough drops every day to soothe a cough that wouldn?t go away. Galeassi took antibiotics for his pain.Weeks later, they received their correct diagnoses.?I was embarrassed,? Saari said. ?At first I didn?t want to talk about it.?Shame is a common reaction ? especially among younger males ? and perhaps the main reason testicular cancer is rarely spoken about.McWhirt is trying to change that. She has written the book her son requested ? ?Together We Will Win: What Happens When We Don?t Talk About Testicular Cancer? ? and hopes it will shed more light on the disease. She also receives donations for a college scholarship in Drazick?s honor. McWhirt gives the annual award to a Lee?s Summit football player at a banquet each May.?People are afraid to talk about that part of a guy?s body. They get embarrassed,? McWhirt said. ?That?s something that frustrated Ian to no end. He couldn?t figure out why, if this was common in young men, why isn?t anyone talking about it??
Saari considers himself one of the lucky ones. Even through four rounds of chemotherapy, the only side effect he experienced was hair loss. Of course, it fell out in the middle of a high school exam. But his brown locks are back now, and the cancer, as far as he?s concerned, is behind him. Saari?s cancer is clinically in remission.?His mother and I could never be prouder of the way he fought this,? said Ray Saari?s father, John Saari, his voice breaking. ?He did better with it than we did, especially better than I did. I was very angry with God. Ray, though, he never got angry. He accepted it and moved on with his life.?The battle is far from over for Galeassi, who still can?t build up enough stamina to return to the sport he loves. While going through chemotherapy, he attempted to join his teammates during practice, but he wound up vomiting under the stadium bleachers.?I run about 100 feet,? Galeassi said. ?And it feels like I ran eight miles.?Even so, Galeassi?s outlook remains positive. His maturation over the past four months is evident in his lack of negativity, said his mother, Renee. Saari beams with the same upbeat attitude. But while Saari has found his breakthrough moment ? returning to the soccer field ? Galeassi is still waiting for his.?When I walk onto the field, it?s going to feel like I accomplished something ? like I climbed a mountain,? Galeassi said. ?It?s been really hard, but I think I?m more positive after it. I think it?s easier to be positive and appreciate the minor things in life when you go through this.?

US seeks calm over Asian disputes; won't mediate

(AP) ? The Obama administration on Friday pressed U.S. allies Japan and South Korea to continue their cooperation on North Korea and other key issues, despite a dispute over a contested islet, and also urged Tokyo and Beijing to make serious diplomatic efforts on an even sharper dispute over maritime borders.

Meeting with the Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said "every nation in the region has a responsibility to work to resolve disputes, peacefully lower tensions, promote regional security and stability." She noted the three key countries' cooperation is vital to convincing North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons, doing her best to calm their disagreement over the tiny islands known as Dokdo in South Korea, and Takeshima in Japan.

The two countries, which both host tens of thousands of American troops, also have been at odds over the historical legacy of Japan's 35-year occupation of South Korea in the early 20th century and its use of Korean women as sex slaves by soldiers. In June, the two countries put on hold an intelligence sharing pact after it provoked an outcry in South Korea.

"Our alliances with Japan and South Korea are the cornerstones of peace and prosperity in the region," Clinton said at the start of the talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba and Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan. "Each of these countries represents an enormous success story about what can happen when nations are focused on peace and stability and giving more opportunities to their own people, and developing good relationships with their neighbors. We will maintain close cooperation between the three of us. That is a top priority for the United States."

The dispute between Japan and South Korea is just one of several in Asia, where competing maritime issues are inflaming public sentiment and even provoking violent protests in China. Beijing's battles range from the resource-rich South China Sea to rock outcroppings administered by Japan.

China and Japan traded angry accusations over the islands in a late-night exchange at the U.N. General Assembly Thursday. The islands are called Senkaku by Japan and Diaoyu by China.

That prompted the top U.S. diplomat for East Asia, Kurt Campbell, on Friday to remind the two countries, which have the world's second and third largest economies, to recognize the importance of their relationship and resolve their grievances through dialogue. He said each government should set aside the territorial dispute from its other bilateral issues, acknowledging that it would be "extraordinarily difficult" to solve.

The U.S., however, will not play a mediating role in the dispute, Campbell told a news conference.

In her meeting, Clinton told the Japanese and the Koreans the same thing about mediation, a senior U.S. official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because she wasn't authorized to speak publicly about the private meeting.

Rory Hamilton-Brown signs with Sussex ? Cricket News Update

Rory Hamilton-Brown, ex-Surrey captain, has signed with his former club Sussex after seeking a move from Surrey following the death of teammate and close friend Tom Maynard.

Maynard, a former Surrey batsman, who was also affiliated with the England Lions, passed away abruptly in June this year, in a tragic train accident which shocked the cricketing world. His teammates at Surrey were the worst-hit by the tragedy, particularly skipper Hamilton-Brown, who had been close friends with the deceased cricketer.

The 25-year-old was placed on compassionate leave, but struggled to regain his form despite nearly a month away. He was eventually given permission by team director Chris Adams at the start of September to seek a fresh start with a new club in order to start anew. For this purpose, Surrey released him from the new deal he had signed, which bound him to the club until 2014.

Faced with a choice between Somerset and Sussex, Hamilton-Brown, eventually chose to return to Sussex, a club with which he had previously been affiliated.

?I would like to thank Surrey for the opportunity they gave me to captain such an illustrious club ... I am immensely proud of what I achieved there, both as a captain and a player,? said Hamilton-Brown.

?Losing my best friend Tom ... was indescribably painful,? he continued. ?We were extremely close but ultimately I know I will emerge from this awful tragedy with renewed strength and purpose.

?I am delighted to be returning to Sussex ... I would like to thank Mark Robinson, his coaching staff, the players, management and board at Sussex for welcoming me back so warmly.?

Having made his debut for Surrey against Sussex in a list A match in July 2005, Hamilton-Brown went on to move to Surrey, where he became the club?s youngest captain in 138 years, at the age of 22. His stint at leadership saw the team winning a series of accolades, including their CB40 title win and promotion to the first division in 2011.

However, the death of Maynard proved too devastating a blow, and the right-hander was eventually forced to switch clubs in search of a new environment, in order to resuscitate his career.

SimpleTV clarifies shipping dates, tells backers units will start arriving October 10th

According to Simple.TV, there have been articles circulating around the interwebs that may have caused confusion amongst parties interested about the shipping dates of its facile white puck. So, in order to induce some clarity, the folks behind the project have posted a Kickstarter update to let its backers know their Simple.TVs will be arriving soon enough -- somewhere between October 10th and 15th, to be precise. On the other hand, Simple.TV is also set to start taking pre-orders on its website tomorrow from people who missed out on the crowd-funded party, with these particular units estimated to ship "within 20 days" after the order has been placed. The good news is we're only a couple of weeks away from its long-overdue arrival; in the meantime, however, don't forget we have our own hands-on for you to graciously pore over.

New Survey Breaks Down Workers' Coffee Habits ? CBS Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) ? A new survey lists the professions of people who say they need coffee the most to get them going in the morning.

As WBBM Newsradio?s Bernie Tafoya reports, foodservice and food preparation workers are tops on the list of workers who say they have to have their coffee to give them a jolt to start the day. Believe it or not, they?re followed by scientists, then people in sales, marketing and public relations, and then nurses.

LISTEN: WBBM Newsradio?s Bernie Tafoya reports

Journalists, business executives and teachers are next, followed by engineers and information technology managers.

The survey from CareerBuilder and Dunkin? Donuts finds that 43 percent of workers who say they drink coffee say they?re less productive without it.

Younger workers seem to be more dependent on their morning joe ? 62 percent of workers ages 18 to 25 say they are less productive without coffee, as do 58 percent of those 25 to 34.

East Coast residents are most partial to their coffee. A total of 64 percent of residents of the Northeast drink a cup per day, followed by 54 percent in the South, and 51 percent in the Midwest and West. A release on the study did not specify how Chicago stacks up to the rest of the Midwest in her coffee habits.

The survey also finds 45 percent of workers don?t drink coffee at all. A total of 63 percent drink two cups or more each workday, and 28 percent drink three cups or more.

How To Run A Successful Article Marketing Business | Backlinkarticles

All of your articles should be accessible on your website. In fact, your content should be front and center as it lends you more credibility and builds your image of expertise in your field. Dedicating a page of your website to listing and linking to your content is a great way to ensure continued access and interest in it.

Article marketing is only successful if the content is fresh. You cannot let your content get stale on a website. It needs to be updated and added to constantly. Old content might attract new traffic to your site but it will lose repeat traffic. Attention spans are small these days and only new information will keep your audience engaged.

Write material that will stand the test of time. Don?t write about things that will only hold true for right now. You want readers to be able to be engaged even if they look at material that you have written over a year ago. If they can read old material and still be satisfied, there is a higher chance that they will want to keep reading your new material.

To keep your article marketing efforts fresh, vary the formats of your articles frequently. Do not get complacent and stuff new content into the same formula over and over. Use tip lists, how-to?s, anecdotes and other archetypes to add variety to your articles. Not only will varied article formats retain your readers? interest, but also you will find them more interesting to produce this way.

If your article marketing campaign involves formats that allow reader feedback, (e.g. blogging) you should encourage their participation by ending each article with a question. This spurs readers to consider your article more carefully. Those readers that respond will become involved in a communal discussion, tying them closer to your online presence and making them more likely to read your work again.

Read more often to improve your writing skills. Reading increases comprehension levels, allowing you to make your writing flow more smoothly. If you keep reading new materials, you will increase your writing skills. It does not matter what you are actually reading, as long as you just keep reading anything you can.

Even the most tenured article marketers have room for improvement. Nobody is perfect in this business. Always remember that you need to tweak even your best-performing campaigns. Find what your readers are enjoying about your marketing efforts and work to improve it. Things can go from good to great in no time.

(AP) ? President Barack Obama has appealed to veterans and military families in defense-focused southeast Virginia, casting himself as a president who is ending foreign entanglements and aiding returning soldiers with educational opportunities.

Obama chided rival Mitt Romney for saying, in secretly taped remarks months ago, that nearly half of Americans believe they are victims entitled to government help.

Obama said instead of victims, he sees veterans who have served "with bravery and distinction" and military families wondering if loved ones will "come home safe and sound." Obama was introduced by Sen. Jim Webb, a conservative Virginia Democrat who is a former Marine and Navy Secretary.

Romney was campaigning nearly 200 miles away in Springfield, Va. Obama won the state in 2008; it is among the most competitive of the 2012 contest.

KI-Media2: [KI Media] Cambodia's gambling law loosely enforced ...

    Tuesday, 25 September 2012
    Rachel Will and May Titthara
    The Phnom Penh Post

At 7am, the border crossing from Vietnam to Svay Rieng's Bavet town is already buzzing with the activity of foreign gamblers arriving for a day at the casinos along National Highway 1.

Along the border, tuk-tuk drivers and casino vans wait to transport players 100 metres to gaming havens armed with multilingual dealers eager to accept Vietnamese dong.

But throughout the day, a steady trickle of Cambodian players make their way past the ubiquitous security, taking their seats at the baccarat tables and chirping slot machines.

"[Khmer] can gamble at any table," a staff member from the Las Vegas Sun casino says matter-of-factly. "Just change your currency at the cages to chips first."

As the day wears on, the tables swell with more Khmer gamblers under the watchful eye of floor managers and guards.

In August, a meeting in Cambodia's capital gathered senior management from each of the Kingdom's 61 gaming venues to address growing rates of criminal activity on casino premises.

Amid the calls for stricter security, deputy national police commissioner Lieutenant-General Sok Phal made a suggestion that seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

"We would like to encourage all casino owners to strictly obey Cambodian laws, and immediately stop Cambodian citizens from entering and gambling in their casinos."

    Boats to border casinos

Gambling, in any form, is illegal in Cambodia for citizens, according to the Law on the Suppression of Gambling adopted by the National Assembly in 1996.

In 1994, the first casino licence was granted to NagaWorld, which then occupied a boat in the Tonle Sap river in Phnom Penh.

Since then, dozens of licences have been granted, but the government and casino operators have only loosely enforced the "no locals" policy.

"Cambodian gaming legislation is yet to be comprehensive and formalised," said Thomas Pearson, senior legal counsel of Cambodian law firm BNG Legal.

On the nation's western border, Oddar Meanchey province's O'Smach town draws about 2,000 Thai nationals each day, says Khun Sarun, commander of the O'Smach military police.

But when police officials and casino security come off their daytime shifts, Cambodians easily find their way through the casino's gilded doors, he said.

"There are still many [Cambodian] people losing gambling bets and becoming homeless and poor," said Sarun. "Some people can become beggars because they are addicted to gambling."

    The capital's gem

The casino floor of NagaWorld teemed with visitors on a recent weekday afternoon, crowding blackjack, roulette and baccarat tables and slot machines. Despite the impassive presence of suited security guards, Khmer people freely roamed the casino ? and the gambling tables.

"There's no ban on Khmer people coming here," one security guard said. "They can come freely."

One Khmer man, 32, said he visited NagaWorld regularly, winning or losing as much as $1,000 per day.

"I came here because I owed money. Now I come here five days a week. I have never been told I cannot gamble," he said.

Florian Pastiu, director of Casino Ops for NagaWorld, declined to comment on the matter but noted that Cambodians with dual citizenship can legally gamble.

While current regulations do, in fact, make allowances for Cambodians holding two passports, a recent visit by the Post evinced no effort to check IDs.

On the day in question, a Post reporter approached three separate gaming tables with a Khmer colleague, each time asking, "Is it OK if my Khmer friend plays?"

Each time, they were invited to play without inquiry.

Despite numerous requests for comment over the course of the past week, the company offered no statement in time for publication of this article.

According to an analyst with intimate knowledge of Cambodian gaming operations, as much as 70 per cent of NagaWorld's revenue is derived from local gamblers, with much of that revenue attributed to Cambodians' penchant for gaming machines.

Traci Mangini, financial consultant for Entertainment Gaming Asia, a multinational gaming company that leases and jointly manages NagaWorld's 670 slot machines, called the casino's slot machines the "primary driver of revenue for our operations in Cambodia".

Speak of the Devil: A Day In The Life Of A Cat

"If you hold a cat by the tail, you learn things you cannot learn any other way." ~ Mark Twain

"Cats were put into the world to disprove the dogma that all things were created to serve man." ~ Paul Gray

"A catless writer is almost inconceivable. It's a perverse taste, really, since it would be easier to write with?a herd of buffalo in the room than even one cat; they make nests in the notes and bite the end of the pen and walk on the typewriter keys." ~ Barbara Holland

7:10 AM. Awake, unexpectedly. Hearing the sound of distant machinery. This will not do. This will not do at all. I demand my sleep not be disturbed until I'm ready to wake up.

7:12 AM. Have determined source of sound. Spotting machinery out on road. Apparently those lowly humans are engaged in resurfacing the road with those big loud noisy things.

They had better not be doing this all day. Or I will have words with them.

7:15 AM. Sleep is impossible, now that the noise patrol is going on outside. Honestly, what kind of hour is this for anyone to be out and about? Well, if I have to be awake, my staff had better wake up. If she isn't already...

7:17 AM. Have found staff in bed, refusing to stir. Staff has pillow curled around her head, as if to block out the noise outside. Understandable, staff, but I require nourishment. Right now.

7:18 AM. Pouncing up on bed. Walking back and forth on top of staff. Wake up, staff. See to my needs, post haste. Then go have a word with that work crew outside. They rudely interrupted my sleep. And yes, I know I'm being two faced by saying they're rude and then waking you up. There is a difference. I'm a cat, and you work for me. Therefore I have every right to wake you up whenever I please.

7:20 AM. Staff grumbles and growls. Oh please. We cats have perfected the arts of grumbling and growling.

7:21 AM. Staff finally sits up, mutters something about wishing it was Saturday. Staff, you have ten minutes to come downstairs and feed me. And it had better not be any of those field rations. You and I both know I don't like field rations.

7:29 AM. Back downstairs waiting in kitchen. Hearing staff upstairs. Time's running out. I was far more generous than I could have been, giving her ten minutes to get downstairs, and nary a trace of her...

7:32 AM. Staff finally emerges into kitchen to feed me. The fact that she's reaching for the field rations does not leave me hopeful. Staff, I thought we had an understanding.

7:34 AM. Staff places bowl of field rations down on floor near me. Glare at her with disdain. Staff, this is going on your performance evaluations, you realize?

7:36 AM. Reluctantly beginning to eat field rations. Far too dry and lacking in taste. I would vastly prefer high grade salmon and caviar.

7:55 AM. Staff on her way out the door. Bids me goodbye for the day. Staff? Wait, what about my right to go in and out as I please all day long? Staff?

Staff has closed the door behind her. I'm stuck.

This is definitely going on her performance evaluations...

7:56 AM. Watching staff pull out of driveway in car. Work crew still out on road making noise. Wondering if I can call the?county to complain about the noise.

8:25 AM. Work crew slowly grading road. Instead of gravel, you morons could just pave the road. Wondering if that would make more noise or less. Pacing back and forth on windowsill, wondering when they'll get finished.

8:45 AM. That's enough. Time to call the county and have them shut this operation down. It's going to cut into my nap time.

8:46 AM. Have called county officials to file formal complaints. Stymied by their inability to understand cat. Will not lower myself to speak English.

9:35 AM. Work crew sounds are more distant. Down the road now. Hopefully they won't come back, but that noise thoroughly disrupts my daily routine of naps, naps, and more naps. Must write a letter to the editor.

10:45 AM. Finally the machines are distant enough not to annoy me.?Time for naps. It would be ideal if I could be napping whereever would be most inconvenient for the staff, but she's off at that place she calls work.

12:45 PM. Waking up from nap. Needed the rest. Time to stroll about. Perhaps force myself to eat some more of those field rations. Not much of a choice, really. A cat has to eat....

12:57 PM. Finished eating field rations. Even less impressive after a few hours in the bowl than they were this morning. Staff, you and I will have to have a long talk about the quality of my meals, or I will just have to find myself a new staff member.

1:15 PM. Wandering through house. Have stopped by scratching post. Must attack scratching post. Can't help myself. It's in my nature.

1:30 PM. Have finished assaulting scratching post. Still lingering scent of catnip on it. Ah, catnip. There is surely nothing in the world more exquisite. Or more addicting.

1:35 PM. Attacking the scratching post has made me a little sleepy. Nap time.

2:55 PM. Waking up again. Oh, come on, staff, where are you?

3:10 PM. Wandering house. Have found ball of string in upstairs guest room.

Can't resist it... it's calling out to me. I must have it.

3:11 PM. Have given in to urge to attack the ball of string.

4:05 PM. Finally finished unspooling ball of string in epic run around the house. Feeling sleepy. Might take a nap.

5:10 PM. Waking up again. Puzzled by presence of string all over the place.

    Oh, right.

    I did that.

5:15 PM. Following string along. How did I manage to get it between all of the staircase pillars like that?

5:20 PM. Confused by how the string is now wrapped around the piano. I must have been moving fast. These things happen... I get so obsessed with the string that I don't watch what I'm doing...

5:30 PM. Okay, let me see if I've got this straight... I got the string fed through the telephone casing? How is that possible? Did I violate basic laws of physics?

5:35 PM. I'm starting to think the staff won't be impressed by what I did to the ball of string.?It's everywhere.

5:48 PM. Practise patented innocent look. The one that says, That was like that when I woke up. Don't ask me who did this...

5:55 PM. On the other hand, the argument could be made that it's the fault of the staff. She left a ball of string out in the open, knowing what I might do. Yes, it's her fault.

6:05 PM. Hearing the sound of a car door outside. Scrambling up onto windowsill. Ah, there's the staff. Coming up the walk to the front door.

Let's see, Patented Innocent look, or Blame It On Her? Which should I use?

6:06 PM. Staff opens front door and sees first of the string wound around the doorknob and into the living room. I casually saunter into the hall.

Oh, come on, you're the one who left the string upstairs, and me all by my lonesome for hours on end....

6:07 PM. Staff mutters about wondering why she didn't just get a dog. Staff, we've been through this before. Dogs are silly and foolish creatures. You require a cat. I keep you in your rightful place. Namely under my paw.

6:08 PM. Staff begins long process of dealing with string I've run all over the house. Yes, well, if you left the door open?so I could go in and out at my?leisure as I please all day,?we wouldn't have this problem, would we?

I'd have wound the string around the picnic table and the barbecue.??

7:15 PM. Staff finally finished dealing with the string. She looks at me with a shake of the head and a roll of her eyes. I respond by rubbing my head against her legs and purring.

She melts. Works every single time.

7:25 PM. Staff begins preparing dinner. Staff, I'm assuming better cuisine is in store for me tonight?

7:30 PM. Staff puts down standard field rations and the generic canned meat. Staff, this is not what I meant by better cuisine.

7:45 PM. Have reluctantly finished off evening meal. Will watch staff closely as she prepares her own meal. I smell something distinctly of chicken origins. With those seasonings she uses.

8:10 PM. Staff has finished making her meal. Must sit nearby in kitchen and stare. And then stare some more.

8:15 PM. Staff relents and sets out an additional plate, then puts meat on it, and puts it down on the floor. Taking a sniff. Chicken Parmigiana. Now this is more like it!

8:20 PM. Happily satisfied by extra meal of delicious chicken parmigiana. Staff, this will reflect very well in your performance evaluations.

8:35 PM. Staff finishing up with dishes. Heading into living room. Time to watch a bit of television.

8:40 PM. Political debates. No thank you. They don't talk about what's truly important in the world.

    The price of catnip.

8:45 PM. No, not a reality show. No one cares about a sleazy bachelor anyway. Where are the shows that feature attacks on squirrels by cats? That would be Must See TV.

8:50 PM. Staff comes in and takes the remote without asking. Staff, that's not nice.

Staff settles in for a Matthew McConaughey movie. Oh, come on, staff. We've discussed this before. The man looks like he's been hit by too many baseballs. That goofy grin of his is the sort of thing you'd see on a dog.

9:10 PM. Staff persists in watching Matthew McConaughey flirt with hapless Kate Hudson. Why do they make so many movies together? Isn't that cruel and unusual punishment? Where's a Siberian Tiger wandering into the middle of the story for no reason when you really need one?

9:20 PM. Oh, well, at least this movie doesn't feature the Aniston Demon. I have no idea why that woman is famous... I really don't.

9:45 PM. Of course. The misunderstanding between Matthew and Kate that will inevitably lead them to a happy ending regardless. It happens in all of these movies. Makes you want to smack the screenwriter.

I still say he grins like a dog.

    And that's not a compliment.

10:15 PM. Credits rolling. Staff bawling. She always gets this way watching those movies. Come on, staff, these films don't rate as tearjerkers.

Humans. Can't figure them out. Never will....

10:20 PM. Staff shuts off television for the night. Staff remarks that she loves those films. Staff, we're going to have to get you a better quality of film to watch. Try The Ghost And The Darkness. I always root for the lions, even though I know the end of the movie.

10:45 PM. Staff gives me a late evening bowl of milk. Very good, staff, there's hope for you yet.

10:55 PM. Staff picks me up for cuddles. Will put up with it. I figure I should let her, what with the whole ball of string all over the house thing I did today....

11:35 PM. Staff brings me up to bed for the night. I purr away. For some reason cuddles do that to me.

Don't tell anyone I said that. I have a reputation to maintain.

Living Greener: Tips to Cut Down on Water Waste ? George Slavov's ...

When it comes to being more eco-conscious, most of us could stand to make some improvements in our daily routine. One of our worst habits is inefficient water use. We are not purposely wasting it, we are just not aware of our habits and we take water for granted. But, in the next several years, many states are predicted to have a water shortage; this precious resource is not infinite like we think it is. If you are looking to be a better friend to the environment, there are some easy fixes you can implement right in your home and making an effort to use water more efficiently is a great place to start.

Check for Leaks and Fix Them

You may not think much of a leaky faucet, but even a seemingly small leak like this can waste hundreds of gallons of water a month; a bigger leak may waste thousands. The best way to check for leaks is to record the reading on your water meter, turn off everything in your house that uses water and then check it again several hours later. If the reading has changed, you have a leak.

    Toilet Tips

Standard toilets waste a huge amount of water with each flush. A higher-efficiency toilet can reduce water use anywhere from half a gallon to five gallons per flush; this translates to using up to 70 percent less water flushed and 30 percent reduction in indoor water use.

If you cannot purchase a new toilet, there are very inexpensive means to make your current toilet more efficient. You can purchase tank bank or float boosters at home improvement stores, or you can make your own by filling plastic bottles with water, and sand or pebbles; make sure to place them away from the operating mechanisms. This simple fix can save up to 10 gallons of water per day.

    More Efficient Showerheads and Faucets

Installing a low-flow showerhead?which means using less than 2.5 gallons per minute?is easy, inexpensive and will significantly cut down on water use. All faucets should be fitted with aerators?this significantly cuts down on water use without affecting pressure. This may be one of the most powerful ways to conserve water and it is also one of the cheapest since aerators can cost as little as a few dollars.

    Insulate Hot Water Pipes

Running the water while waiting for it to heat up is a major contributor to inefficient water use in the home. Insulating your water pipes is an inexpensive, simple fix; less water will be wasted and you will get your precious hot water faster?a win-win situation.

Cut Down on Garbage Disposal Use

Garbage disposals can use several gallons of water per day. You can reduce water use by using it less frequently. Put unused food to good use by starting a compost pile for your lawn, trees and other plants. This also helps conserve water by creating healthier soil that retains moisture better, which means less water for landscaping upkeep. Not all food waste is appropriate for compost, however. Acceptable items include fruits, vegetables, breads, crackers and other grain products, coffee grounds, pulverized nut shells, and egg shells. Items to avoid include meat, fish, bones, eggs, dairy products, greasy foods, fatty foods and oils.

Put Grey Water to Good Use

Grey water, or the water left over from domestic activities, such as washing clothes, can be used for other purposes and does not need to go right down into the sewer. It can be used to water your lawn and garden; considering the amount of water we use for landscaping, this can make a significant dent in your overall water use. Depending on how you are using it, you can simply collect it yourself in a bucket or have hardware installed that can divert it automatically.

Painted Address Pumpkin Topiary | The Motherload

One of my favorite things about Fall is the fun crafts that I get to do with all of those beautiful Fall pumpkins! Today I wanted to showcase an easy painted address pumpkin topiary that you an create with just a few supplies from your local Walmart store. This painted address pumpkin topiary would the be the perfect way to dress up your porch, porch step, or a little corner in your room.

    Craft Supplies Needed

2- 75 inch pumpkins (any color)- $4.87 each

8? pumpkins (how ever many you need to complete you house number)- $4.87 each

Black Plaid FolkArt acrylic paint (I chose the shiny variety)- $1.77

    4? Plaid letter stencils ($3.77)

    Stencil Brushes ($5.47)

    Clear tape (in supplies)

Hot glue gun & glue sticks (in supplies)

8? pot (I found mine in the clearance section of the store for $11.96)

    1. Begin by twisting off the stems on all of the pumpkins that will be going on the bottom of your topiary. You will want to leave your top pumpkin (the 75? one) with the stem intact. All the other stems can come off.

    2. Center your stencil on your pumpkin and attach it with clear tape. Make sure when positioning your numbers that when you stack the pumpkins, you will be able to see the number clearly in the center. You will especially want to do this for your bottom pumpkin since it will be wedged in your pot.

    3. Trace your number with a pencil. Remove your stencil.

    4. Pour your acrylic paint in a disposable cup or bowl. Using a small paintbrush, carefully paint your number on your pumpkin. If you make an error, use a cloth or a damp Q-tip to remove any painting errors. Set your pumpkin aside, and repeat the process on each of the other pumpkins until you have stenciled your address number.

    5. Wedge your 75? pumpkin into the pot. This should be a tight fit so you will not need to glue or attach your pumpkin into the base. Stack your next pumpkin and carefully hot glue in each spot where the pumpkins are joined together. Hold the pumpkins together to secure for a minute or two. Repeat this process until you reach the top of your pumpkin stack!

Stand back and behold your pumpkin glory! Isn?t this just the cutest thing ever? I know all of my neighbors are going to be so jealous!

I hope they are half as impressed as my cat.

    Seriously.

(AP) ? Rafael Nadal still has no timetable for his return from a knee injury, and the 11-time Grand Slam champion isn't sure if he'll play the Australian Open in January.

"All that is in my mind is to keep working hard to come back," Nadal said in interviews with European newspapers Tuesday. "I cannot think about the future because it's not like if you break your arm and you know you will have a few weeks like this, then a few weeks like that and then you are back."

The Spaniard hasn't played since losing in the second round of Wimbledon in June to little-known Lukas Rosol. Nadal is recovering from a partially torn patella tendon in his left knee.

"This is a day-by-day thing," Nadal said. "I have checks every day to see how I'm improving. I can't predict what will happen."

Nadal could miss the ATP World Tour Finals in London Nov. 5-12 and Spain's Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic Nov. 16-18.

As for the Australian Open, he was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying: "I hope you see me in Australia. That is the biggest goal for me, to come back just before then in Qatar, but I cannot say for sure it is going to happen. The only thing is to recover well. I want to be 100 percent when I come back."

Nadal said he played with anti-inflammatories to get through the French Open, which he won for a record seventh time, and took pain-killing injections at Wimbledon.

He said he was particularly upset at missing the London Olympics, where he had been scheduled to carry the Spanish flag at the opening ceremony.

"I was very, very sad for three weeks around then," he said. "It only comes every four years. Missing the U.S. Open was hard, but you think you will have more chances."

Nadal praised Andy Murray, who won the U.S. Open for his first Grand Slam title after losing in four previous major finals.

"He deserves it more than anyone," Nadal said. "I am very happy for him."

RIM Shows Off BlackBerry 10?s Gaming Prowess

The perception of RIM?s BlackBerry ecosystem is that it?s only meant for business use; too stuffy. The company tried to change that by introducing some standard games to the equation with its Blackberry PlayBook, but it?s handsets remained largely without any entertainment prospects.

With BlackBerry 10?s new touchscreen interface, however, it looks like mainstream mobile games will finally be making their way to BlackBerry devices.?During its keynote today, RIM?s team lead for gaming, Sean Paul Taylor showed off some of the games that will be coming to BlackBerry 10.

Of the four games shown during the keynote, four were rehashes of titles we?ve already seen on Android and iOS including Shark Dash, Jetpack Joyride, and Shadowrun. Each game appeared to run smoothly and without and hiccups, although and real impressions will have to wait until we can actually get our hands on them.?

The one game that did interest us was the space shooter Alpha Zero. RIM says the game is brand new and will make its big debut on BlackBerry 10. Taylor says the game supports multitouch gestures, allowing users to control their ship?s lasers by moving two fingers around the screen.?

That was it for the games RIM was showing off for its new OS. There also wasn?t any mention of the number of games that will be available for the operating system at launch. If RIM really wants to drop its stodgy image, it?ll have to offer users far more entertainment options than what we?ve seen.?

(AP) ? With the biggest round of his career, Brandt Snedeker won something far more valuable than money Sunday.

He proved to himself he could beat the best in the world.

Snedeker knew his best chance to be the FedEx Cup champion was to win the Tour Championship, no simple task with East Lake as tough as ever and Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods going after the same prize.

Snedeker was the only player in the last five groups to break par.

He answered the final challenge with three big birdies on the back nine, building such a big lead that his final tee shot sailed into the grandstands to the left of the 18th green and it didn't even matter. Snedeker still closed with a 2-under 68 for a three-shot win in the Tour Championship, and a $10 million bonus for winning the FedEx Cup.

But this was never about money.

"I think it solidifies what I already know," Snedeker said. "I think when I play my best golf, my best golf is some of the best in the world. I've never had more confidence in myself than I have the last five weeks, and I made sure that I kept telling myself that all day. I am one of the best players in the world. This is supposed to happen. It's OK to feel nervous, and no matter what I feel today, everybody else in the field feels exactly the same way I do.

"So go out there and get it done. I did a great job of that."

McIlroy, the best player in golf this year and the No. 1 seed going into the Tour Championship, faded early by dropping four shots in a four-hole span on the front nine. So did Woods, who already was 3 over on his round before making his first birdie on the par-5 ninth.

Snedeker wound up with a three-shot victory over Justin Rose (71) to win the Tour Championship, his second win this year and a trophy that came with $1.44 million. Add the $10 million bonus from the FedEx Cup, and it's the richest payoff in golf.

    Big deal.

The 31-year-old from Nashville, Tenn., calls that kind of money "crazy talk ... like winning the lottery." Far greater perspective came from a 30-minute hospital visit Sunday morning with Tucker Anderson, the son of his swing coach who was critically injured in a car accident and is in a responsive coma.

"I asked him if he thought I was going to beat Rory McIlroy, and he gave me a wink," Snedeker said.

He beat McIlroy out of the FedEx Cup, and everyone else in his way at East Lake. Ryan Moore was tied for the lead with birdies on the 14th and 15th holes, only to make bogey on the last three holes for a 70 to tie for third with Luke Donald (67).

McIlroy had won the last two playoff events and three of his last four tournaments dating to his record eight-shot win at the PGA Championship. He still is virtually a lock to be voted PGA Tour player of the year, but he had to settle for second place ? and a $3 million bonus ? in the FedEx Cup.

And so ends the most successful year yet in the FedEx Cup ? four wildly entertaining playoff events packed with the biggest names, even if the No. 1 player in the world wound up at No. 2.

"I'm a little disappointed, but at the same time, Brandt really deserves to win," McIlroy said. "He played the best golf out of anyone. He knew what he needed to do. He needed to come in here and win. He controlled his own destiny, just like I did. And he was able to come and do that. So because of that, he really deserves it."

How can Snedeker explain winning the FedEx Cup over a player who won twice during the playoffs?

"Life is all about timing," he said, grinning.

Snedeker, who finished on 10-under 270, won for the fourth time in his career and moved into the top 10 in the world for the first time.

It also was his first time winning with a share of the lead going into the last day. In his previous three wins, he came from five shots, six shots and seven shots behind, the latter at Torrey Pines this year.

That's what made Sunday feel more valuable than the cash. That's what he takes to the Ryder Cup next week at Medinah, where no one can question why U.S. captain Davis Love III picked him for the team.

"I'm a lot better under pressure than I gave myself credit for," Snedeker said. "I learned that over the last four weeks. I've had a lot of pressure the last four weeks and a bunch of different stuff going on in my life. To be able to focus in and do what I did was pretty impressive."

Snedeker joins Woods (twice), Vijay Singh, Jim Furyk and Bill Haas as winners of the FedEx Cup in its six-year history.

It was an emotional week in so many ways for Snedeker, already a high-strung personality. His father, Larry, flew in to watch final round at East Lake, only the second tournament he has attended since having a liver transplant last year. And then came the visit with Tucker.

"It just made me realize ... as much as I made today out be important, how unimportant it really is," he said. "It got me focused on the small stuff, which I did a great job of doing today."

But he delivered some big shots ? a 40-foot birdie putt on No. 8, just two holes after he dumped his tee shot into the water on the par-3 sixth and made double bogey; the 18-foot birdie putt on No. 13 that gave him momentum on the back nine; and a chip-in for birdie from short of the 17th green that effectively clinched it.

"I had complete confidence in what I was doing," Snedeker said.

Rose was within one shot on the back nine, but he never caught up after Snedeker's big birdie on the 13th. Rose will look back on the final round and regret a series of missed putts, mostly for birdies and one for par, all of them costly. He missed four putts inside 10 feet.

"He's mentally tough, Brandt," Rose said. "It's kind of a different pressure, playing for $10 million. It gets in your head more than other golf tournaments. Other golf tournaments, it's more routine. But this week, it's not routine. We talk about it all year long, and suddenly you have to walk the walk. And he did a great job of that today."

Snedeker, McIlroy and Woods were separated by four shots going into the final round. All any of them had to do was win to capture the FedEx Cup.

Woods, who was four shots behind, was the first to leave the picture. He missed the first fairway with a 3-wood and made bogey, hit into the water on the par-3 sixth hole and was never a factor the rest of the way. He birdied the last hole for a 72 and finished eight shots behind in a tie for eighth.

"I just didn't have it this weekend," Woods said.

McIlroy, three off the lead, also came undone early. He had 11 consecutive rounds in the 60s during the FedEx Cup playoff, but with a strong breeze and a fierce golf course, that was bound to end. He sped the process along by getting caught up in the rough on No. 4 for bogey, hitting into the water on the sixth for double bogey, and driving into a bunker on the next hole for yet another bogey. He shot a 74 to finish nine strokes back.

The toughest part for Snedeker is figuring out what to do with such a windfall. The only thing he has ever splurged on was his home in Nashville, which he said was "not grandiose." He still drives the SUV he bought when he first joined the PGA Tour in 2006.

"I'm not by any means a flashy guy," he said. "Of anybody that I know, I do not need $11 million. So there are going to be things we can do to really help people. So that's the way I look at it. This is unbelievable to be financially stable for the rest of my career. As long as I'm not an idiot, I should be fine, really. I really think we can make a difference and help a lot of people out in Nashville and Tennessee and the surrounding areas."
